Apple hopes that Business Chat will revolutionize the realm of customer relationship management (CRM). Businesses will be able to communicate directly with their customers in iMessage. Business Chat is made possible by iOS 11, the next major software update for Apple devices. iOS11 is expected to be released in the fall. Apple created Business Chat in partnership with existing Customer Service Platforms (CSP) including Salesforce.

After finding a business, whether it be on Safari, Maps, or Siri, any user of iOS 11 will be able to use Business Chat. Customers can schedule appointments using their personal calendars. Plus, customers will even be able to complete financial transactions through Apple Pay. Furthermore, the format will be the same as iMessage with one exception. The chat bubbles will appear as shades of grey rather than the customary blue and grey. Also, the customer service agent and the customer will be able to send photos as well as other attachments.

Apple is seeking to differentiate Business Chat from other communication platforms. Facebook, Twitter, and Google all offer similar platforms. In contrast to automated AI support chat systems, Business Chat provides a customized interaction with a real person.

Additionally, Apple plans on using Business Chat to interact with their own customers.
