Apple’s plans to change the living-room television experience by trying to make a better TV programming guide. The goal is to create a better user interface for its Apple TV set-top box.  Apple wants to make it easier for users to find TV shows and movies to watch across video apps. Apple is developing a digital TV guide that will work on Apple TV and other Apple devices, such as the iPhone and iPad. The guide will show what Time Warner’s is on streaming apps, such as Netflix, or Walt Disney‘s and allow users to access those programs with a single click.  Currently, Apple is negotiating with programmers to get the metadata about what’s in their apps so Apple can build a multi-app program guide.

Apple has disagreed and filed a huge brief with input from a range of designers, all of which argue for the US company. Some of those arguments come from people who have worked on Samsung’s own products. The rest comes from some of the world’s most famous designers, including tech companies like Dyson, fashion firms like Louis Vuitton in and other brands including Lego and Target. In over 60 pages of arguments, those designers and other professionals argue that “the jury properly awarded to Apple all of Samsung’s profits from selling its copycat devices”.  Apple’s new brief is just the biggest and most prominent of a range of such documents that have been written for what could be one of the most important patent cases ever. Seven amicus briefs have already been filed by Samsung, which argues that it shouldn’t have to pay out the full profits on products that violate only some patents.

Tech investor Gary Vaynerchuk and musician-entrepreneur Will.iam will serve as advisers too.   “This is a great opportunity to be part of a series that lets us use our experiences to help app developers break through and create viable businesses that will impact peoples’ lives.” Paltrow said in a statement.   Will.i.am also commented, “As tech drives modern pop culture now more than ever, we are giving a platform for the next generation of culture makers to shine. We are searching for entrepreneurs with the vision to shape the future, solve real problems and inspire change within our daily lives.” Paltrow adds some additional showbiz sheen to a project that’s basically a big piece of branded content for Apple: The selected winners will see their apps get featured placement on the App Store and are promised potential funding from venture-capital firms.
