Apple Stock News: Familiar Foe Bringing Apple to Court

Apple Stock News

For the latest Apple Stock News, AAPL closed at $113.05 on Friday, September 30th, 2016, with a 0.78% gain, or $0.87 from its previous close of $112.18 per share.

Amidst the news of the iPhone 7’s excitement, Apple’s success seems to have attracted unwanted attention. VirnetX, an internet security technology and software company has been awarded a $302.4 million ruling against Apple.  The court was convinced Apple used patents in securing real time communications over the internet and 4G network for popular application, FaceTime, without permission. Back in May, VirnetX attempted to seek a court order to forbid Apple from using FaceTime and Imessage in their phones.  This is not the first time the company has taken Apple to court. In fact, VirnetX has twice taken Apple to court, each time time being awarded in the verdict, but only to be overturned in an appeal by Apple.

Although the ruling is done, this may not be the last time Apple will see VirnetX in court. ViernetX is also seeking another lawsuit claiming Apple’s iMessage is also violating patent usage similar to FaceTime.  Apple has not been the only company to face allegations from VirnetX.   Microsoft found themselves in a similar position which resulted in reaching a settlement out of court.
